Denise Scatena, M.A.
Denise is one of the founding partners of Scatena Daniels Communications and has the ear of some of the top media powerhouses in San Diego County and beyond. With her uncanny ability to drive awareness to causes, attendance to events, and raise funds in the hundreds of thousands of dollars for clients, there’s good reason why she’s an award winning PR pro with over two decades of experience. When the San Diego native co-founded Scatena Daniels it was to help the little guys get heard in a crowded market. She saw causes that weren’t drawing the media attention they deserved, and corporations doing great things, yet no one was talking about them. She is dedicated to making sure San Diego’s local foundations, nonprofits, and corporations with a cause get seen and get noticed. As a former board member for PRSA’s San Diego Chapter and for Mama’s Kitchen, she has used her expertise to help on a pro-bono basis for these and other select organizations. Her toughest clients? Her seven-year-old twins. Although PR is part of her everyday, when she’s not helping her clients get featured she can be found burning off energy at the YMCA or planning the next family adventure. Denise is a graduate of Chapman University and San Diego State University where she earned an MA in Communications.
Arika Daniels, MBA
When you need PR done right, Arika’s the one who will get the job done. Arika Daniels is one of the co-founders of Scatena Daniels Communications with a passion for helping those doing good in the community get noticed and featured. Her superpower? She literally can do it all. Whether that’s guiding her clients through the rough waters of a tough issue, creating a grassroots outreach that gets results, or planning strategic media relations, Arika is the “get it done right” gal. Her work has earned multiple awards from the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) and the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC). Her expertise is also a staple on various nonprofit boards such as the executive board for the PRSA San Diego/Imperial Counties Board and the San Diego State University Business Alumni Network. When she’s not putting out PR fires or singing her clients’ praises she can be found traveling with her husband and three kids. Arika received her undergraduate degree from San Diego State University and her MBA from Chapman University’s George L. Argyros School of Business.
Public Relations Director
Suzy Garcia is officially known as our Public Relations Director, but we like to call her our fire starter. Why? Well, she has a proven track record of igniting revenues, blazing through PR campaigns, and kindling lasting relationships for our clients and the media. Her portfolio includes healthcare, education, nonprofit, F&B, and hospitality. Suzy received her BA with high honors in Journalism from the University of Nevada, Reno. She has a soft spot for charities doing amazing work and has offered her services pro-bono to San Diego Second Chance, Chula’s Mission and The Miracle League of Las Vegas. Suzy is also a member of the Asian American Journalist Association’s San Diego Chapter. One thing you should know about Suzy is she loves to talk – she has been an active member of Toastmasters International for the past four years. She most recently served as Southern Division Director for the organization where she was responsible for providing enriching educational and leadership experiences for more than 600 members in San Diego County. For her efforts, she was recently honored with the Division Director of the Year award in August 2016. When she’s not talking, pitching the media, or saving the day, you can find her spending time with her husband and cooking.
Ann Marie Price
Ann Marie Price is a dedicated PR professional with experience in a wide range of industries and agencies. Her portfolio includes education, arts, science, nonprofit, hospitality, transportation, public affairs and lifestyle brands. An active board member of the Public Relations Society of America San Diego and Imperial Counties Chapter (PRSA SD/IC), Ann Marie keeps her finger on the pulse of what’s going on the worlds of media and PR. In fact, the PRSA SD/IC recognized her dedication to the public relations industry by honoring her with the New Professional of the Year Award in October 2015. Ann Marie received her BA in journalism with an emphasis in public relations from San Diego State University. When she’s not dedicating herself to the craft of PR she can be found spending time with her husband and son watching their favorite TV shows and exploring the beautiful city of San Diego.
Kristen is our Project Specialist, as well as a theater buff and stylist extraordinaire. Her previous experience as the Partnerships Manager for one of the top theatre companies included planning and producing over 200 free-to-the-public events. She also served as the Program Director at Westview High School’s theatre company where she named National Youth Art’s Southern California Outstanding Director in both 2011 and 2012. Kristen is not only a Project Specialist for Scatena Daniels, but this renaissance woman is also a stylist for Stitch Fix and a freelance social media consultant. She currently serves as a Cultural Correspondent for Vanguard Culture, reviewing performing and visual arts in San Diego County, and volunteer coaches a student improvisational comedy team. Additionally, she has served the Cultural Chair for the Downtown Community Planning Council and Philanthropy Chair for San Diego’s Alpha Kappa Psi Alumni Chapter. Kristen holds a bachelor’s degree in Theatre Arts from San Diego State University. When she’s not planning events and keeping us on point, she can be found at Disneyland or decorating her day planner. (Her planner’s Instagram account has over 1,500 followers!).
Megan Dyer Rebelo
Megan is a freelance consultant for Scatena Daniels with nearly 20 years of experience in PR. She is our go to pro when it comes to developing brand awareness and ensuring our clients’ public relations and communications plans are developed in a way that complements their marketing and sales initiatives to provide the best ROI. Prior to taking the freelance world by storm Megan served as a vice president of client services at Allison & Partners (A+P). During her tenure with A+P, Megan headed up the San Diego office and the consumer practice group for Southern California – including the San Diego, Orange County, and Los Angeles offices. Active in her local community, Megan is a member of the Thursday Club Juniors, serving as secretary of correspondence in 2015/2016; and is currently the communications chair with the La Playa Unit Auxiliary at Rady Children’s Hospital. She’s also the recipient of several industry awards including nine Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) Edward L. Bernays Awards; and has been recognized by the Holmes Report for Best PR Program in 2003. Megan received a bachelor’s degree in communications and journalism with a concentration in public relations from Shippensburg University in Pennsylvania and began her career in New York City. When she isn’t developing brands and getting them the attention they deserve she can be found hanging out with her husband and two daughters; they love to paddleboard, camp and bike ride around San Diego and visit National Parks.
Paloma is the PR relationship builder. Having worked in several PR firms and several different industries for over 10 years, she has the superpower of building strong media relationships, and strategically executes successful and creative campaigns for our clients. Her previous work as Marketing Manager for Cosmetic Laser Dermatology involved implementing client programs to maximize new and existing relationships, local and national media relations, exclusive nationwide product launches and special events planning. Her experience extends to the arts and nonprofits as well, having executed marketing and PR campaigns for the American Red Cross, San Diego Museum of Art and Univision Network in New York City. Paloma has the unique distinction of being a San Diego native and she earned her BA in Communication with a minor in Spanish from San Diego State University. When she’s not building media relationships she enjoys spending her free time with her husband and son Maximiliano, exploring San Diego’s restaurant scene, and spending time with their pup, Guinness.
Veronica Varela Reyes
Veronica is our superstar project specialist. Veronica splits her time between Scatena Daniels as a Project Specialist and a Research Assistant for the Shop 2gether research project at the Institute for Behavioral and Community Health (IBACH). Veronica received her Bachelor of Science in business administration with an emphasis in marketing from San Diego State University. She has worked with various San Diego based nonprofit organizations, including KPBS, the Balboa Park Online Collaborative, and the Institute for Behavioral and Community Health (IBACH). She was previously the Social Media and Events Specialist at KPBS, where she helped plan the GI Film Festival San Diego. Our resident glamour girl, when she isn’t keeping our team organized and the office running smoothly, she can be found staying up to date with the latest and greatest beauty trends as well as perfecting some killer boxing moves (you never know when that might come in handy!).
