Childhood Friends Turned Entrepreneurs Open Mathnasium of Lemon Grove
January, 2019 Client News

SAN DIEGO – Jan. 24, 2019 – Have you ever dreamt of owning a business with your best friend? That’s exactly what local entrepreneurs Kristi Eugenio and Brea Lee are doing. The dynamic duo is opening Mathnasium of Lemon Grove, a math-only learning center where students receive individual instruction in a small group setting taught by highly-skilled and trained instructors.

Eugenio and Lee grew up in Valencia Park, have known each other since they were eight years old, and are going on 20 years of friendship. With their previous experience as Mathnasium instructors, the pair decided to open their own center in the community they grew up in to help local students better understand and enjoy math education. The new center will host its grand opening celebration on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2019 from 1 to 4 p.m. at Mathnasium of Lemon Grove at 6955 Broadway in the 94 Country Plaza Shopping Center. The event is free and open to the public.

“After working with Mathnasium for four years, I’m excited for this new venture with my childhood best friend,” says Eugenio. “Watching a student with low confidence in math transform into someone no longer afraid of the subject is amazing. Mathnasium not only positively affects the students’ grades, but also builds confidence creating a positive impact on every aspect of their lives. I look forward to more students from our neighborhood to enter our doors and leave with excitement and a new found love for math.”

Mathnasium of Lemon Grove Opens Doors to Neighborhood Families on Feb. 2

Attendees will enjoy math games and activities for students at any skill level – and parents are encouraged to get in on the fun as well. Guests can also enter a drawing for a free one-month membership at their center. Families interested in enrolling their student can participate in a Risk-Free Assessment to see if Mathnasium is the right path for their children. Food and beverage will also be provided to event attendees.

The new center will offer the following three promotions at the event and through February 2019:

  • Register for a one-month membership to receive 50 percent off the registration fee. (Note: The registration fee is $149.)
  • Sign-up for a six-month membership, the registration fee is waived.
  • Enroll in a 12-month membership, the registration fee is waived and the 13th is month free.

After an initial written assessment and one-on-one time with an instructor, an individualized learning plan is created to address the student’s exact needs and math goals. Additionally, instructors at Mathnasium of Lemon Grove will also provide homework help to assist students in understanding assignments to transform frustrations into welcomed challenges. Mathnasium students grow more excited, confident and prepared to complete math assignments at home, and parents see their grades reflect that.

The ‘Math Path’ Podcast

Eugenio and Lee plan to launch a unique podcast called “Math Path”, where they will discuss STEM-related topics, including tabletop math games for families, news stories, and other topics of interest for neighborhood families. Their first episode is available and can be accessed on Podbean.

“Growing up with Kristi from elementary through high school to now being her business partner gives us another chapter in life together while giving back to our alma maters – Nye Elementary School, O’Farrell Charter School, and Morse High School — and to the community that gave us so much over the years,” says Lee. “We keep each other grounded, motivated and ensure one another when we’re unsure. Our hope for our center is to build confidence in math education at any skill level to reinforce to students growing up in our neighborhood that they can solve any problem.”

Mathnasium of Lemon Grove Supports Local Schools

Eugenio and Lee are committed to supporting school events and fundraisers – especially when it involves hands-on learning math activities for parents and kids to do together. Mathnasium Math Nights, which are provided at no cost to the PTA, supports the school’s STEM/STEAM initiative and also fosters parent and student engagement.
