San Diego – Feb. 3, 2012 – Mama’s Kitchen announces its second annual Man Diego™ fundraising event to be held on Tues., March 27 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at True North Tavern in North Park. Man Diego is friendly competition for men and women to participate in a tournament-style “Bar Olympics” fundraiser to enable Mama’s Kitchen to cook and deliver hot, nutritionally specific meals free of charge to men, women and children affected by HIV/AIDS or cancer, throughout San Diego County.
Many non-profits face the challenge of finding and cultivating younger donors and volunteers, which are desperately needed to allow these community organizations to continue serving those in need. Mama’s Kitchen has organized this event to reach a younger age group. “Our younger volunteers are very important to us,” explains Alberto Cortés, executive director, Mama’s Kitchen. “We value the support of students and young professionals, they can relate to the fact that many of our clients are under the age of 35. The San Diego community of North Park is a perfect place to hold this event because it is a central location and enables us to introduce our organization to those who may not have heard of us before,” he continued.
Man Diego is hosted by True North Tavern, located at 3815 30th Street, in the heart of the San Diego neighborhood of North Park. Teams move through four rounds of short quick bar games (sans alcohol), advance to head-to-head rounds, then compete in a taco speed-eating contest to decide the winner. Participants and spectators will enjoy hors d’oeuvres from Urban Solace and join the fun local teams (of men or “wo”men) compete to claim the title of Man Diego™ Champions. All attendees will have the chance to win awesome prizes, listen to great tunes and enjoy complimentary food and drink specials throughout the evening. A costume contest will be held for most creative team garb, with a chance to win prizes.
There are a limited number of spots available for teams to participate. Pre-event registration for a team of two people is just $60 ($30 per team member) and includes games registration, two t-shirts, two complimentary drink tickets and two faux ‘staches (if you don’t have your own). Spectators are welcome as well. Tickets are just $15 per person and include food and one complimentary drink ticket. Parking is available in the North Park Parking Garage across the street from True North.

About Mama’s Kitchen
Mama’s Kitchen was founded in 1990 when volunteers from the AIDS Assistance Fund discovered that many of their clients were becoming too ill to take care of themselves. They realized that a reliable home meal delivery service was needed to ensure that these individuals would continue to receive nutritious, life-sustaining food. In 2004, Mama’s Pantry was opened to provide individuals with HIV/AIDS who are able to prepare meals the opportunity to supplement their nutritional needs. Mama’s Kitchen has served over five million meals since it was founded and has never turned away a client who qualified for our services.  Our commitment to our clients remains unchanged. Today, the organization has expanded its service to San Diegans affected by either AIDS or cancer. Mama’s Kitchen provides three meals a day, for every day of the year, free of charge, to nearly 350 men, women, and children in San Diego County.
