MEDIA ADVISORY: Mayor Kevin Faulconer to Serve 10 Millionth Meal for Serving Seniors

MEDIA ADVISORY: Mayor Kevin Faulconer to Serve 10 Millionth Meal for Serving Seniors
November, 2015 Client News
WHAT: Serving Seniors, a local nonprofit dedicated to helping seniors in poverty live healthy and fulfilling lives, will serve its 10 millionth meal with the help of San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer on Monday, Nov. 9. County Supervisor Ron Roberts will serve the first of the next 10 million meals.

WHY: Did you know that 2 in 5 San Diego seniors have to choose between rent and food?

For 45 years, Serving Seniors’ innovative solutions have helped San Diego seniors struggling with poverty and hunger, keeping them independent. Healthy seniors remain independent. Independent seniors are able to enjoy life, spend less time in the hospital and often don’t need long-term care. With ongoing state and federal budget cuts, Serving Seniors bridges this growing financial gap for seniors and provides a safety net for seniors, who otherwise would have nowhere to turn. Serving Seniors provides nearly 600,000 meals each year to their clients, as well as delivers “wrap-around” wellness services, to take care of senior health, mental health, advocacy and housing needs.

WHERE: Serving Seniors’ West Wellness Senior Center, 1525 4th Avenue, San Diego, 92101.  (Downtown San Diego, corner of 4th Ave. and Beech Street)

EXPECTED ATTENDANCE: Approximately 175 seniors

WHEN: Monday, Nov. 9 from 10:45 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. 10 millionth meal to be served sometime between 10:50-11:10
