Meet April
As Director of Integrated Communications, April Tellez Green, APR leads integrated strategies that connect public relations, media relations, digital, content, social, and traditional marketing for multiple clients. She serves as a senior client partner, providing strategic counsel and guiding integrated campaign development. She supports message development, media relations, spokesperson preparedness, and crisis communications. She also helps strengthen the tools, systems, and workflows that keep fast-moving work organized from planning through execution.
With more than 16 years of experience in integrated communications, April has led paid, earned, shared, and owned media strategies for complex, purpose-driven organizations across higher education, cultural institutions, and the private sector. Most recently, she served as communications manager at UC San Diego, where she provided public relations counsel, developed messaging and briefing materials, supported spokesperson preparation, contributed to crisis communications, and strengthened earned media visibility. Previously, she held public relations leadership roles at National University and the San Diego Natural History Museum, where she led media relations, translated complex subject matter for public audiences, and supported institutional visibility and engagement.
In 2017, April helped guide the San Diego Natural History Museum through an international news cycle tied to the Cerutti Mastodon discovery. That work earned a Mark of Excellence Silver Bernays Award in global communications from PRSA San Diego/Imperial Counties. She was also selected as one of San Diego Metropolitan magazine’s 2023 Top Marketing and Public Relations Executives.
Deeply engaged in the communications profession and the San Diego community, April previously served as president of PRSA San Diego/Imperial Counties. She has also held leadership roles with the UC San Diego Public Relations Council and the San Diego Museum Council. As a practitioner who holds her Accreditation in Public Relations (APR) issued by the Public Relations Society of America, she values the credential as a mark of strategic excellence and ethical practice. She brings that discipline to every engagement.
In her free time, April enjoys spending time with her husband, Matt, and sons, Wyatt and Miles, along with their Goldendoodle, Coco. A San Diego native and graduate of San Diego State University, she also enjoys visiting local cultural attractions and supporting small businesses and restaurants. Her happy place is Ocean Beach, where you can often find her cruising Newport Avenue or grabbing a fish taco at South Beach.
