About the Role
Scatena Daniels is seeking a sharp, proactive Communications Specialist to support client campaigns, manage day-to-day communications initiatives, and help drive strategic storytelling across earned, owned, paid, and social channels. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced PR agency environment, demonstrates strong news judgment, and is comfortable balancing multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously. This is a full-time non-exempt position, based in San Diego, California.
What You’ll Do
- Develop clear, compelling written content, including press releases, media pitches, bylines, talking points, newsletters, blog posts, advertising copy, and social media copy
- Support the execution of integrated PR and communications campaigns across multiple clients and industries
- Actively manage and use project management and media monitoring tools (e.g., Asana, HubSpot, Harvest, Google Workspace, Meltwater, TV Eyes to track and report progress, deadlines, priorities, and dependencies
- Maintain accurate documentation, timelines, and task tracking across client accounts
- Assist with media relations efforts, including building media lists, pitching journalists, monitoring coverage, managing on-site and remote interviews, and tracking results
- Monitor news, trends, and competitor activity, applying strong news judgment to identify timely, relevant media opportunities and proactively flag potential challenges for clients
- Support social media strategy development and execution, including content ideation, planning, messaging alignment, and performance tracking
- Collaborate closely with internal teams to ensure messaging consistency and timely delivery of client work
- Prepare briefing materials, reports, and post-campaign recaps
- Support event, launch, or announcement planning as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field
- 2+ to 4+ years of experience in PR, communications, or media (agency experience strongly preferred)
- Excellent writing and editing skills with strong attention to detail; proficient in AP style
- Experience using project management tools and systems; willingness to learn and adopt additional platforms as needed
- Comfortable actively managing multiple projects, timelines, and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize competing demands
- Solid understanding of media relations, news cycles, and editorial decision-making
- Experience supporting and executing social media strategy
- Proficiency with Google Workspace
- Familiarity with using tools such as Asana, HubSpot, Harvest, and media monitoring platforms

Salary Range & Compensation
This is a full-time, non-exempt position based in San Diego, California. The hourly pay range for this role is $31.25-$33.65 per hour, depending on experience, skills, and qualifications.
This position is eligible for overtime in accordance with applicable California wage and hour laws. Final compensation will be determined based on relevant experience and internal equity.
