CASE STUDY
KPBS / GI Film Festival
The largest military film festival in the U.S.
Overview
We have led media outreach and strategy for KPBS on its annual GI Film Festival San Diego since its inception in 2015. The GI Film Festival San Diego is a military-themed film festival revealing the struggles, triumphs, and experiences of service members and veterans through compelling and authentic storytelling. The GI Film Festival originated in Washington, D.C. in 2006 and was brought to San Diego in 2015. Due to the festival's growing popularity, increasing media presence and continuous positive feedback from audience members, San Diego is now the only home base for the GI Film Festival San Diego.
Challenge
To introduce the film festival to the San Diego market and highlight the background stories of the selected films and filmmaking process, encouraging the general public to attend the festival.
Results
We earned national, regional and local coverage across all mediums, including TV, radio, print and online. We assist with media sponsorships, community engagement and social media management.
Because of the high-profile nature of the six-day festival, our team coordinates interviews and media appearances for VIPs, such as documentary filmmakers Ken Burns and Ric Burns; actor and activist George Takei; actor Matthew Marsden; and actor/producer/director Jeffrey Wright, as well as for high ranking service members and veterans across all military branches, including the Marine Corps, Army, Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard. Attendees come from throughout the region to support the GI Film Festival San Diego.
